Temporary testing facility

Working with our parent company, Energyline Limited, we gained a number of temporary consents for a testing facility for pole prototypes (also known as supports) at their site at Copgrove.

The project formed part of Scottish and Southern Electricity Network’s (SSEN) successful Network Innovation Competition (NIC) proposal to develop a New Suite of Transmission Structures (NeSTS). The project was a follow on from a scheme to develop a concept 275kV support to improve upon the traditional steel lattice tower form. The projects aim was to develop a suite of supports which, through greater stakeholder acceptance, may speed up the consenting process for new build over head lines.

The testing of the prototypes were a success, with the supports now being built as part new overhead line routes in the UK.
